Using Light Colours to Brighten Dark Rooms or changing a Room for less than $100

In our spare time during the last few cold and rainy weekends we’ve been completing a few tasks in the house the latest of these was the repaint and repair of the living/dining room. This was not a terribly difficult job, just one that needs to be undertaken without small children running through the room every 5 minutes.

What it did however highlight to me was the importance of colour choice.  Our living/ dining room is in the centre of the house and although north facing only receives shadowed light due to the neighbours house.

contrasting the colours

The previous colour scheme being a mustard and yellow set made the room feel permanently dark and cold.

We continued the white theme started in the entrance and hallway using a Dulux Antique USA white and gloss white for the picture rails and skirting boards.

The pictures above demonstrates the difference in the wall colour . The pictures below show the finished room.

For those that are interested , Dulux has a great site and smart phone app that will guide you through the selection process.

To finish this off we will be buying a large rug in the near future to warm up the room and hide the tiles.

The total cost of this change $82 paint, $12 No More Gaps, $2 sand paper.

At the end of the day a simple and easy change to improve the house, luckily I think we are on the downhill run on the indoor painting journey as we only have 2 rooms yet to complete.
